Here's the range of Wood Siding work our crews handle across West Chicago, IL.
We plan pattern and exposure before the first shingle goes up, not adjusted mid-install. We select vertical-grain cedar for better dimensional stability than flat-grain stock.
We treat replacement boards to match the moisture protection of surrounding material. Replacement boards are sealed on all six sides, including the back, before installation to prevent moisture wicking.
Rot remediation includes checking behind the board for sheathing damage before closing it back up. We probe surrounding boards beyond the visibly damaged one, since rot and pest activity often spread further than they appear.
Wood siding needs re-staining and sealing on a regular cycle to prevent moisture absorption and UV breakdown. Wood moisture content gets checked before staining, since sealing over damp wood traps moisture rather than blocking it.
Traditional board and batten profiles installed with correctly planned batten spacing before the first board goes up. Fasteners are set to allow for wood's natural seasonal movement, avoiding the split-board problem common with rigid fastening.
This step is often the difference between a repair that lasts and one that fails again in a few years. {A simple rainscreen gap behind the boards can solve a chronic moisture problem without changing the visible material at all.|We check soffit vent function as part of any wood siding ventilation assessment.}
We'll ask about board species and age to gauge scope before scheduling.
We assess ventilation and sheathing condition behind any damaged section.
You get a written price for repair, staining, or new installation, itemized by scope.
Workmanship on wood siding work carries the same guarantee as any material we install.
